Elizabeth Johnson’s education and dance training include North Carolina School of the Arts (high school diploma), George Mason University (BFA), and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (MFA). She holds a Graduate Laban Certificate of Movement Analysis (GL-CMA) from the Department of Creative Arts Therapies, Columbia College Chicago and is a dual certified Teacher of the Alexander Technique (ATI/Chesapeake Bay Alexander Studies, AmSAT/Alexander Technique Milwaukee). Johnson founded and artistic directs Your Mother Dances, her contemporary dance repertory company, which has featured her original choreography as well as produced national and regional guest artists regularly since its 2006 Milwaukee residence.  Her choreography has also been produced in New York City, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Minneapolis, Louisville, New Haven, CT, Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in Urbana, IL and in Gala performances at the American College Dance Festival. Johnson has danced in the companies of David Parker and The Bang Group (NYC), Sara Hook Dances (NYC & IL), and Molly Rabinowitz Liquid Grip (NYC). Her university teaching expertise and research include the integration of anatomy, kinesiology and somatic paradigms into Modern, Ballet and Jazz dance technique teaching, Improvisation and Composition pedagogy, and exploring feminist theory, embodiment, relationship, and popular culture trends and ironies in choreography for dance and musical theatre. Prior to her appointment at Texas Tech University, Johnson has served as dance faculty at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, the University of Wisconsin, Madison, the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
