Biography
Elizabeth Johnson - Artistic Director

 

Elizabeth Johnson's professional level dance training began at North Carolina School of the Arts where she studied with many historically notable teachers including Melissa Hayden, Duncan Noble, and Robert Lindgren.

She holds a BFA in Dance with honors from George Mason University, an MFA in Performance and Choreography from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a GLCMA (Graduate Laban Certificate of Movement Analysis) in Laban Movement Analysis from Columbia College Chicago.

Johnson is the founder and artistic director of Your Mother Dances, her Milwaukee based contemporary repertory company. Her choreography has also been produced in New York City, Washington, D.C. Chicago, Minneapolis, Louisville, New Haven, CT, Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in Urbana, IL and has been selected several times for Gala performance at the American College Dance Festival.

In addition to her own company work, Johnson has performed with Sara Hook Dances (NYC & IL), Molly Rabinowitz Liquid Grip (NYC), and toured nationally and internationally as a guest artist with New York City's David Parker and The Bang Group.

Johnson has served as dance faculty at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, the University of Wisconsin in Madison, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and the University of North Carolina-Greensboro teaching a wide range of undergraduate and graduate technique, creative and theory courses. Her research and teaching interests include the integration of anatomy/kinesiology and somatic inquiry (Laban Movement Analysis and Alexander Technique) into dance technique teaching, Dance Composition and Improvisation pedagogy, and exploring embodiment, relationship, and popular culture trends in her choreographic work.

She recently completed her second of three years of training to become a certified Alexander Technique teacher.
